To Hell in a Handbasket

The U.S. is broke and getting broker.

President Bill Clinton managed to eliminate the huge budget deficits created by President Reagan's "cut taxes and increase spending" plans.  By the last three years of President Clinton's eight years in office, he left large budget surpluses and we were actually paying down the national debt.

President Bush has managed to quickly wipe out those surpluses and we are, again, setting new records of deficit spending.  Just as in our personal budgets, continuously spending more than we make leads to disaster and the piper must be paid.  We will have to pay these huge debts.  Or our children and grandchildren will have to pay the piper for us.

Forty-four percent of the money the Republicans are borrowing from around the world is coming from other countries -- especially China.  Being indebted to China (a huge Communist country) gives them control over us.  The International Monetary Fund has warned that our recklessly spending beyond our means is a threat to the world economy.  Former Federal Reserve Chairman Greenspan has warned against continuing massive deficit spending.  Yet President Bush has failed to veto a single spending bill passed by his Republican Congress.  He continues to push for more spending without any way to pay for it -- except more borrowing.

The Soviet Union was crushed under huge debts that it couldn't pay.  Let's not follow its example.  Help us stop the deficit insanity.  Vote Democratic.  Join us.
